2W EV Adoption Has Accelerated Sharply
September put electric two-wheelers back above two lakh monthly registrations. The bigger story is the scale and pace of the market now joining India's roads.
Two lakh a month is becoming a meaningful run rate
September registrations rose 12.2% from August and 88.7% from a year earlier. Across the first nine months of 2026, 15,70,575 electric two-wheelers were registered, 63.3% more than in the same period of 2025.
Electric models accounted for 11.6% of all two-wheelers registered in September, compared with 8.2% a year ago: a 3.4 percentage-point gain in penetration. This is a sharp expansion in new vehicles entering the market, not a direct count of vehicles still active on the road.
Market leadership is concentrated, participation is broad
TVS Motor led September with 54,037 registrations (26.1%), followed by Bajaj Auto with 48,429 (23.4%) and Ather Energy with 30,533 (14.7%). The top three together held 64.2% of the segment. In total, 114 manufacturers registered at least one electric two-wheeler.

What this could mean for the service and battery aftermarket
Registrations are a leading indicator of future service demand: each additional cohort adds vehicles that will need periodic inspection, troubleshooting, parts and, over time, battery diagnostics. With 15.7 lakh registrations in the first nine months alone, the addressable vehicle base is expanding quickly.
The opportunity is not simply “more vehicles.” It is the need to support a varied fleet across manufacturers, geographies and product generations. That creates value for workshops and service networks that can diagnose electrical faults consistently, assess battery condition, and use repair evidence to reduce repeat failures and downtime.
These are directional market implications, not a quantified aftermarket revenue forecast. Registrations do not show how many vehicles remain active, their service frequency, warranty coverage or battery replacement rates.
